A rocket launcher was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1938 for the launch of 280mm high explosive devices. In order to improve mobility, frames with six launching rails were mounted on medium armored personnel carriers Sd.Kfz.251. Two aiming rods were attached at the front end of the engine compartment.
