HMS Roberts is the first Roberts class ship. She uses the same main guns as the Queen Elizabeth class: the 381mm Mk.I naval gun. The ship also utilized the 102mm Mk.V dual rapid-fire guns, 40mm 2-pounder cannon and the American Oerlikon 20mm cannon. The hull housed a huge torpedo compartment, accounting for about 3/5 of the total length of the hull. This compartment also helped to improve steering stability, reduce depth and improve underwater protection. During World War II HMS Roberts participated in the Torch action, Avalanche action, the Normandy landings and a series of Allied fire support missions.
