Upper Volta Lot
Upper Volta was the former name of Burkina Faso, a landlocked West African country characterized by savannas and a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. Its diverse population includes Mossi, Fulani, Bobo, and other communities, with Mooré, Fulfulde, and Dioula among its widely spoken languages. The Republic of Upper Volta gained independence from France in 1960 before adopting the name Burkina Faso in 1984. Thomas Sankara, the revolutionary leader behind that change, remains a prominent figure in its political history.
