United States of America 1959 Arctic Exploration Commemoration
- 4c North Pole, Dog Sled and "Nautilus". Admiral Robert E. Peary (1856-1920) was known for completing the 1st expedition to reach the North Pole by dog-sled on April 6, 1909. Fifty years later, the U.S. submarine "Nautilus" became the first submarine to reach the North Pole underwater.
