Arnold Palmer (1929-2016) won his first major title at the Masters Tournament in 1958. He then went on to win more championship tours with a total of 62 PGA and 2 European tournament wins. He had a wide fan based called the "Arnie's Army" that watched him won numerous golf tournaments in the 1960's.
On September 25, 2016, the day Arnold Palmer died, Golf Week's Adam Schupak wrote:
"As a measure of his popularity, Palmer, like Elvis Presley before him, was known simply as "The King." But in a life bursting from the seams with success, Palmer never lost his common touch. He was a man of the people, willing to sign every autograph, shake every hand, and tried to look every person in his gallery in the eye."
