If you’re an avid collector of war-related stamps, you’ll want to check out these new stamp issues released by MaltaPost on July 10, 2018 to commemorate Malta’s involvement in the World War II operation known as Operation Husky, where the Allies took the island of Sicily, Italy from the Axis powers.
Malta was a military base from which British forces launched attacks on Italian ships and Axis armies in North Africa. Malta was a strategic value to the British forces that a large number of merchant vessels and warships were used to supply the island of food, medical supplies, fuel, equipment and military hardware to the war effort.
Operation Husky took 38 days to complete with lives lost numbering around 24,850 American, British and Canadian lives.
The stamps are photo reproductions of General Dwight Eisenhower, Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, and soldiers involved in Operation Husky.
