The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) is set to celebrate UNESCO World Heritage sites in Mexico by issuing six new stamps on November 21 as part of their World Heritage series, which began in 1997. The stamps commemorate important cultural and natural heritage sites, specifically highlighting the historic center of Mexico City, the pre-Hispanic city and national park of Palenque, the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, the pre-Hispanic city of El Tajin, Hospicio Cabanas in Guadalajara, and the historic town of Guanajuato. The stamps will be released during a first-day ceremony at the Chicagopex show from November 21-23 in Itasca, Illinois, where collectors can also obtain a special cachet.
Each design was created by Rorie Katz using photographs from Adobe Stock. The stamps will be printed by Royal Joh Enshede, with quantities varying across denominations: 4,500 panes of the 78¢ and $1.70 stamps, and 3,500 panes of the remaining four denominations. Additionally, prestige booklets featuring these stamps along with text and illustrations will be available, printed in limited quantities for each of the U.N. post offices in New York, Geneva, and Vienna.
Collectors interested in obtaining these stamps and related products can visit www.unstamps.org or contact the UNPA directly through their email or telephone. It's recommended for collectors to make requests for special show cachets before the start of the Chicagopex event to ensure they receive them. Further details on ordering and specific collectibles can also be found on the UNPA’s website.
