On October 6, 1889 Maria Dabrowska, Polish writer was born in Russow near Kalisz, Congress Poland. She studied sociology, philosophy, and natural sciences in Lausanne, Switzerland and Brussels, Belgium.
As a novelist, Dabrowska wrote Noce i dnie (Nights and Days) which earned her a nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature five times. Dabrowska was also awarded the prestigious Golden Laurel of the Polish Academy of Literature in 1935.
Noce i dnie was made into a film in 1975 by Jerzy Antczak. It's an epic novel of the Niechcic family, told from a woman's perspective remembering her youthful love, marital challenges that included her husband's death and life in the countryside.
