On November 29, 1898, Clive Staples Lewis, British author of the Narnia series, was born in Belfast, Ireland.

As a young boy Clive Staples, also known as C.S. Lewis, enjoyed reading. He wrote more than 30 books including the popular fictional story, The Chronicles of Narnia, a story novel of children and their adventures in the imaginary kingdom of Narnia, guided by a talking lion named Aslan.

Born and raised in a religious Christian family, C.S. Lewis lost faith in religion at the age of 15. He described himself as "very angry with God for not existing" and "equally angry with him for creating a world" in his autobiography, "Surprised by Joy: The Shape of My Early Life".

C.S. Lewis has been known for his philosophical and religious overtones. He was fascinated with anthropomorphism where human attributes like traits and emotions are personified in animals, gods, or objects that prepared him and his brother to write the story of Boxen, a fantasy land inhabited and run by animals. C.S. Lewis pursued his passion for writing by enrolling at Oxford University College where he excelled in the fields of Greek and Latin literature, English, and Philosophy.

Throughout his career at Oxford University, C.S. Lewis had become less of an atheist to transform himself into an influential, "Christian apologist" or defender of Christian ideals. He has been referred to as, "The Apostle to the Skeptics", partly due to his approach to religious belief as a skeptic and transformational conversion.

C.S. Lewis was a prolific writer, as well as, close friends with some of the famous literary authors like J.R. Tolkien (author of the Lord of the Rings), Nevill Coghill (author of the modern version of Canterbury Tales), and others during his tenure at Oxford University.

In recent times, his book "Mere Christianity" was voted the best book of the 20th century in 2000 by Christianity Today, a leading Christian magazine founded by Billy Graham. To this day, his writings have been widely received and read by members of many Christian denominations around the world.
