This Day on May 25

On May 25, 1787, the United States delegates except Rhode Island came to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to create the Constitution of the United States.

Independence Hall located on 520 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is one of the United States' most iconic civic buildings in which the United States Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and created by America's Founding Fathers.

Independence Hall was also where Lincoln's funeral procession in 1865 was held and over 300,000 mourners came to view Lincoln's body.

Decades later, Independence Hall has become the venue for speeches and protests from the civil rights movements and commemoration of the National Freedom Day to the proclamation of independence of Czechoslovakia.

Independence Hall is widely recognized on the back of the United States $100 bill, the bicentennial Kennedy half-dollar, and the United States Postal Service stamps issue of 1956 (featured above) and again in 1974.
