Great Britain’s Royal Mail Celebrates Duck Species Found in the United Kingdom
On September 11, Royal Mail released a special set of 10 stamps showcasing various duck species native to the UK. This collection features two horizontal strips of five stamps each, highlighting 10 of the 22 different duck species found across the country. The first strip includes the Aylesbury, pintail, silver Appleyard, shelduck, and eider, valued at the first-class rate of £1.70. The second strip features the goosander, Indian Runner, mallard, mandarin, and call species, priced at the second-class rate of 87 pence.
Among the 10 species represented, five are wild ducks, with the goosander and mallard typically found in rivers and lakes, while the shelduck and eider inhabit coastal areas. The pintail, while often a winter visitor, also frequents coastal regions. Each stamp is accompanied by a presentation pack offering detailed information on the species depicted, making it an attractive option for collectors.
In addition to the stamps, Royal Mail provides related collector's items such as first-day covers featuring unique postmarks and a collector’s sheet that pairs each stamp with a different photographic label of ducks in their natural habitats. These items can be purchased directly from Royal Mail’s website at www.royalmail.com. For more information, visit the original article on Linn's at Linn’s.
