Great Britain’s Royal Mail has released a special set of 10 stamps to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the iconic board game Monopoly. These stamps are presented in two horizontal strips of five, showcasing various properties from the Monopoly board game, with each stamp valued at the first-class postage rate of £1.70. The first strip includes spaces like Collect £200 as you pass Go, while the second features notable locations such as Park Lane and Oxford Street.
The history of Monopoly dates back to 1903, with its modern version being published by Parker Brothers in 1935. Since then, the game has gained immense popularity worldwide, being licensed in over 113 countries and printed in 46 languages. The unique aspect of the UK version is that it features local London streets, having been adapted by John Waddington Limited, which obtained the rights to produce the game in the UK.
Collectors will appreciate the additional offerings that accompany the stamp release, including a presentation pack filled with historical insights about the game and a limited edition Monopoly playing piece shaped like a postbox. For more details, check out Linns.
