PostNord Denmark has announced that it will deliver its final letter at the end of 2025, signaling a potential end to Denmark's historic stamp program that has been in existence for over 170 years. This shift raises concerns for stamp collectors about the future of new issues, as it remains uncertain if another operator will take over international letter mail, which could allow for the continuation of new stamp production. However, it appears that PostNord will not remain the issuing authority for stamps after its exit.
In light of recent changes, such as the invalidation of stamps issued before January 1, 2024, for domestic mail, Denmark is rapidly moving away from traditional letter postage. Collectors are now focusing on the upcoming release of PostNord Denmark’s 2025 year pack on September 12, which may become a historically significant collection if it turns out to be the last annual set issued by the postal service.
The 2025 year pack holds immense significance for collectors, as it could mark Denmark's transition into a "dead country" in philatelic terms, where stamps remain collectible but no new issues are produced. Given the uncertainty surrounding the future of Danish letter mail and stamp issuance, collectors are encouraged to secure this year’s pack early to preserve a piece of postal history that dates back to 1851.
