On August 12, 2026, Greenland’s postal service, Tusass, launched two new stamps celebrating the kayak's cultural significance as a hunting vessel. The stamps are available in denominations of 3 kroner and 28 kroner, showcasing a kayaker hunting walrus and an artistic underwater depiction of a kayak, respectively. This marks the beginning of a four-part series that explores the kayak's historical and cultural relevance in Arctic hunting traditions.
The 28 kroner stamp serves the postal rate for letters to Denmark, while the 3 kroner stamp can be used as supplementary postage. Designed by Christian Fleischer Rex, these stamps highlight the kayak's construction, which enables hunters to navigate Arctic waters effectively. The stamps, printed on gummed paper, also come with official first-day covers canceled in Sisimiut, Greenland.
Future stamps in the series are expected to cover themes like postal services and expeditions, showcasing the kayak's evolution over time. Currently, U.S. customers cannot purchase these stamps due to customs regulations, but they are available online for international customers at www.stamps.gl/en.
