On August 14, Royal Mail released two new definitive stamps representing Scotland, priced at £1.70 for the first-class rate and 87 pence for the second-class rate. While these stamps are designed with Scottish motifs, they are valid for postage across the entire United Kingdom, making them a unique addition to any stamp collection.
The new stamps showcase traditional designs, featuring a lion rampant on the first-class stamp and the flag of Scotland on the second-class stamp. Notably, these are the first definitive stamps for Scotland to include the silhouette of King Charles III. Each stamp is equipped with a barcode, which can be scanned with a smartphone, enhancing their functionality for modern collectors.
Printed by Cartor Security Printers in lithography, the stamps are self-adhesive and come in sheets of 25, with specific measurements of 39mm by 30mm and perforation of 15 by 14.5. Additionally, Royal Mail has made available a first-day cover featuring both stamps, which can be canceled with a postmark from either Tallents House or Edinburgh, providing collectors with a special item to commemorate the release.
