Gibraltar souvenir sheet celebrates 50 years of the Gibraltar Study Circle

Gibraltar Celebrates Philately and 50th Anniversary of Gibraltar Study Circle

The Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau has issued a £4 stamp as part of a souvenir sheet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Gibraltar Study Circle. This stamp features a reproduction of an early picture postcard depicting the iconic Rock of Gibraltar. The selvage of the sheet showcases a collection of historical covers and stamps, including notable early issues from Queen Victoria, overprints from Gibraltar, and high-value stamps from Edward VII and King George V, as well as rare cancellations.

The items featured in the selvage were sourced by members of the Gibraltar Study Circle, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing knowledge of Gibraltar's philately in all its forms, including postal history, stamps, and related overprints. The Circle, which boasts members across six continents, meets annually in spring and publishes a full-color journal titled The Rock, along with several books and papers on philately.

Designed by Stephen Perera and printed by Cartor Security Printers using offset lithography, the stamp measures 40mm by 25mm, while the sheet itself is 122mm by 74mm. Collectors can find the stamps available for purchase through the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau's website and on WOPA+ Stamps and Coins. For more information, visit the source of this article here.
