The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has released a special collection of stamps in observance of the International Day of Forests, which takes place annually on March 21. This collection features three intricately designed stamps, each representing different UN post offices: a $1.70 stamp from New York City, a 1.90 francs stamp from Geneva, and a €1.45 stamp from Vienna. Each stamp artistically illustrates a prominent tree, symbolizing various facets such as roots, water, and medicine.
Each stamp carries a significant message: the $1.70 stamp emphasizes the role of forests in sustainable development, the 1.90 franc stamp showcases how forests contribute to various industries, and the €1.45 stamp highlights the livelihoods forests provide to millions worldwide. This year also marks the 2026 theme focusing on "forests and economies," stressing the economic importance of forest conservation and management.
Collectors and stamp enthusiasts can acquire these unique stamps through the UN Stamp website. The stamps, designed by Sergio Baradat and printed by Royal Joh. Enshede, have a limited printing of 6,000 panes for each design. Moreover, the UN estimates the annual value of non-wood forest products exceeds $9.41 billion, showcasing the extensive significance of forests beyond just wood production.
