On October 24, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) commemorates the 80th anniversary of the United Nations with the release of 12 new stamps across three souvenir sheets. Each sheet features a vertical strip of four stamps from one of three UN post offices: $1.70 stamps from New York City, 1.70 francs from Geneva, and €2.10 from Vienna. The designs, nearly identical across all sheets, showcase Earth depicted as greenery, a peace dove, a rainbow combined with the peace dove, and a butterfly, each symbolizing various themes of growth, peace, and transformation.
The release also marks a significant moment for collectors, as the UNPA provides insights into the meaning behind the stamps in their collector's bulletin. The designs reflect the UN's commitment to human rights, community development, and the importance of peace for thriving communities, representing the UN's role in global humanitarian efforts over the past eight decades. As part of the anniversary, the UN is also launching the UN80 Initiative, aimed at enhancing the organization's effectiveness in addressing current global challenges.
Collectors will find additional offerings including official first-day covers featuring pictorial postmarks related to the stamps, as well as a postcard. Each stamp measures 40mm by 30mm, and the sheets are 120mm by 165mm. For more details on ordering these stamps and related products, visit unstamps.org or contact UNPA directly.
