Canada Post has recently launched a set of unique octagon-shaped stamps celebrating the significant Islamic festivals, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, with a release date of March 10. This release features three vibrant color variations, with each self-adhesive stamp priced at $1.24. Collectors can find these stamps in booklets containing six stamps, including two of each color, all designed with captivating geometric patterns rooted in traditional Islamic art, notably incorporating stylized maple leaves.
As the eighth stamp issuance honoring Eid, these designs reflect the rich history of Islamic art, where intricate geometric shapes have historically featured prominently. The stylized patterns found in these stamps draw from the mathematical and natural motifs that have adorned various forms of Islamic decoration, enhancing the cultural significance of such celebrations. The stamps not only serve as collectibles but also resonate with the spiritual and artistic heritage of the Islamic world.
Designed by Paprika and produced by Colour Innovations, a total of 50,000 booklets were made available, along with a limited release of postmarked first-day covers. While U.S. customers currently cannot purchase these stamps due to customs regulations, they can be ordered online by those outside the U.S. For collectors, these stamps present a beautiful addition to their collection, embodying the festive spirit of Eid while showcasing Canada's commitment to commemorating cultural diversity through philately.
