Canada Post Honors Graphic Novelists with New Stamp Series
On November 20, Canada Post released a set of six stamps recognizing notable Canadian graphic novelists: Kate Beaton, Jimmy Beaulieu, Guy Delisle, Julie Doucet, Bryan Lee O’Malley, and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. Each stamp design features an original drawing by the respective artist, showcasing well-known characters from their graphic novels engaged in the act of reading. These nondenominated permanent stamps are suitable for first-class domestic mailing, currently priced at $1.24.
This release is a part of the ongoing celebration of the graphic novel genre, which has gained significant popularity for its serious narratives and artistic expression. The stamps are included in a booklet of 12, designed by Subplot Design Inc., featuring a total print run of 1,560,000 stamps. Additionally, first-day covers (FDCs) showcasing each artist's work were also created, with some canceled at the artists’ respective birthplaces or homes. Each FDC is limited to a production of 4,000 copies.
Collectors would find these stamps appealing for their artistic collaborations and the significance of the featured artists in the graphic novel community. The ordering number for the permanent stamp booklet is 414285111, with individual FDCs available under specific numbers for each artist.
